STORYLINE
Spirit Earth features the many ways that individuals and organizations are caring for our planet. The Wildlife WayStation, operating in the Angeles National Forest and the only facility of its kind in the United States, has rescued, rehabilitated, relocated, and provided shelter to over 75,000 animals. The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and their Heal the Bay public marine education center tirelessly fights water pollution and overfishing of Santa Monica Bay, an important waterway to the Pacific Ocean. Discussed in particular are the preservation of the ocean ecosystem, and the importance of green architecture, solar energy, and green design.
The perspectives of the two important indigenous groups who are devoted to Earth's well-being teach us how to honor this planet we all share. The Chumash Peoples are first residents of Malibu who have a 15,000 year history. Mati Waiya is a Chumash Ceremonial Elder who engages in ancient rituals and blessings as part of his passion ofr protecting our connection to nature so that we can offer hope to future generations. His inspiring message: "a child's first breath is their true freedom of life, and their birthright is to have a healthy world." The Pachamama Alliance works to preserve and empower the indigenous peoples of the Amazon rainforest by investigating new worldviews. Their vision is to combine ancient wisdom with modern technology to create "a socially just, environmentally sustainable, and spiritually fulfilling presence on our planet Earth.
